Rocky Railway - 2021 Vacation Bible School

Director, Susan King, chose Rocky Railway as the 2021 Vacation Bible School, which helped the attendees learn how Jesus' power pulls us through when we are faced by challenges. Saturday, July 24, was a fun-filled, jam-packed day with approximately 40 students learning to trust Jesus through skits involving adults and upper grade students. The skits portrayed Jesus’ death and resurrection, Paul encouraging others through a storm, and Peter and John teaching about Jesus.  Classroom teachers (Monique Wolske, Carrie Feldmann, Vicki Fuhrer, and Clee Wolske, with the aid of Melissa Pfeifer and Monica Stewart) reinforced the concepts presented in the skits through class discussion and added the stories of how Ananias helped Saul (Paul) and how the early church was united. The children were actively involved as they learned songs of praise by song leader, Susan King.  Brenda Fowlkes created the background flats of a train going through the mountains that were used in each Bible Adventure.  Murals of animals that may have been encountered along the train ride were created by Cheyanne Fowlkes.  The theme of trains was carried out through craft activities led by Brenda Fowlkes with the assistance of Cheyanne and Courtney Fowlkes. Brenda prepared from wood a three-dimensional train for each student which consist of an engine, flat car, and caboose.  These trains, which had hooks to tie each piece together, were painted by each student; and each was given blocks to place on the flat car.  Students also got to take home a train whistle to remind them of the concept that a train sometimes struggles through the mountain, like we too through struggle life, but Jesus' power pulls us through.  During free time, there were various games available, which included a water slide, three swimming pools, fishing from a boat, and train rides offered by conductors Brian Stewart and Darrel Schmidt.  Both morning and afternoon snacks were prepared by Dorothy Staub.  Everyone provided their own lunch; but supper was provided by Ladies Aid, which consisted of: pizza, pop, and bars.  The day closed with s’mores, singing and the parting message around a campfire. Sunday morning a potluck brunch was enjoyed by participants, helpers, and congregation members.   A big thank you goes out to all who were part of making this year’s Vacation Bible School possible, but the biggest thanks goes out to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
